The Chartered Governance Institute UK and Ireland (CGIUKI) is the membership and qualifying body for those working in governance, risk and compliance, including company secretaries.

History: The Institute has a rich history, closely linked to the development of modern organisations. It was founded in 1891 to represent the interests of a relatively new professional group, corporation secretaries. The emergence of corporate secretary roles can be traced back to the aldermen, clerks and stewards of the guilds, monasteries and municipalities of the Middle Ages.

The Institute was known as The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) until 2019. It rebranded as ICSA:The Chartered Governance Institute in 2019 and as The Chartered Governance Institute UK and Ireland in April 2021.

Institute Qualifications:

The Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme is one of the most broad-based qualifying schemes available, equipping graduates for a variety of career paths and giving them chartered status upon completion.
It is set at Level 6 and 7 (postgraduate level). Qualifying gives you technical know-how, critical skills and validation of your professional knowledge. There are many routes through the qualifying programme according to your needs and background.
